About Rachel
As a hearing person who began learning ISL over 30 years ago, I have seen the language evolve to include new signs for modern technology, and find it fascinating. I think people of all ages could/should learn at least the basics, as it is an official national language since 2017. I initially learned ISL from a Deaf neighbour, but achieved QQI certification through the Deaf village, when I when I worked and took formal classes there.

A typical lesson would be one hour long, but I work at the learner's pace, and lesson length can vary. Beginner lessons will cover common words and phrases , using both letter and word signs. Slight hand-shape variations can have different meanings, so repetition may be required to ensure signs are being signed correctly by learners. Practice between classes will be expected, and required to advance. I'm qualified to train adults but have also taught (family) children.
