Jessica - Hillhead - Music Theory

Methodology

After reading Music at Cambridge I formed a strong interest in teaching music and music making, especially singing and accompanying. I have had over five years of teaching experience with great success of pupils of all ages and abilities.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Piano up to grade 8, singing, theory, violin, GCSE Music, Maths and A-Level Music.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have Grade 8 (distinction) for Piano and Singing. I have Grade 5 theory (distinction). I was awarded a choral scholarship to Cambridge University and I graduated from Cambridge University with a 2:1 BA (Hons) Cantab in music. I have gained my masters in Singing from the Royal Northern College of Music.

On my music course I scored a first for my composition portfolio and took extensive conducting training. I have been CRB'd for the teaching I'm done and have been given child protection training and am first aid trained.

- How much do you charge?

30 mins £30 + travel
1 hr £40 + travel
If I'm teaching a group of 3 pupils, I will charge £20 each for the hour.

- Where do you teach?

I can come to teach at the pupil's house or we could find a mutually convenient venue to have the lesson at.

- When are you available?

At different times in the morning, afternoon and evening during week days and weekends.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

7/8 year olds to adult. I teach A-level and GCSE students. And I have entered people in for Grade 8 intsrumental and Grade 5 Theory exams.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Grade 8 Piano. Grade 8 Singing. I have also prepared people for ABRSM exams on saxophone and flute. Grade 6 Theory. Music, Maths, Science GCSE. Music A-level or Maths A-level. I also accompany pupils for their exams should they need accompanying.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I can tutor via email or over skype.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I'm very passionate about music and especially singing and I really believe in helping an individual reach their own personal goals. Having had many years of teaching and professional performance experience, I love helping people build their confidence with their performance skills.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have extensively worked with children. While at university I helped out with many Summer Courses where I had to teach pupil (age 11-18) music. I was also a volunteer Choir Assistant for the St Catharine's College, Cambridge Girls' choir, where I taught singing and theory to girls (aged 7 - 14).

I then went onto become the Musician in Residence at St George's School, Ascot (aged 11-18) where I accompanied girls for ABRSM exams up to Grade 8 for any instrument, I taught theory individually and in groups, I coached girls on their instruments, I gave private theory, piano and singing lessons and I started up my own Gospel Choir at the school.

I became the Head of Music at College Francais Billingue Londres a French international school where I taught the whole school classroom Music and organised extra curricular activities. Since then I have been privately tutoring a variety of subjects and conducting Nightingale Choir.
