About Finnegan
I am an avid learner. Coming from a STEM-focused high school, I began my four-year Bachelor's degree immediately after high school. I initially majored in Neuroscience, but I switched to Chemistry after discovering my love of Chemistry. I have worked in two different labs-- Chemical and Neurobiological-- performing metal alloy research and addiction studies respectively.

I take a problem-solving approach to subjects such as Chemistry and Mathematics. I focus heavily on teaching useful thought processes to aid in decision making in these difficult subjects. I support the student as they learn to understand the material so that they never need to rely on memorization.
My typical lesson plan includes a brief lecture session, an in depth conversation about the content, and then practice tailored to the student. I find that students are most successful when given the chance to discuss the content casually, removing stress and jargon from the equation. Students perform better during practice after being given the chance to engage with the content and receive feedback.
I've taught Chemistry and Biology to college students for two years. I've also tutored writing, reading, and mathematics (at an elementary level and a college level).
