About Haili
I earned my PhD in English literature from the University of South Florida. As a graduate student and then college instructor, I taught composition and literature courses for students with a wide range of backgrounds. In addition to traditional face-to-face classes, I teach asynchronous online, meaning I’m always looking for ways to engage students across the digital divide. I am comfortable leading lessons via online spaces such as Zoom, especially in one-on-one settings. I have also served as a Writing Center Consultant, allowing me to assist students with various types of written projects at all stages of development. I pride myself on producing final versions of written work that are polished, professional, and entirely (yes, entirely) free of errors in grammar & mechanics. As a literature teacher, I prompt students to have thoughtful conversations about novels, short stories, plays, and poetry. We build close reading skills that enable students to communicate insightful ideas about stories they originally didn’t believe themselves capable of. For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of teaching is watching a student realize they can understand a text and contribute meaningfully to discussions.

I’m a certified English teacher by trade, so I’m used to classes of 20-30 students at a time, but my favorite part of my job is working in small groups and even individual sessions, when I can provide direct instruction based on a learner’s unique needs. Everyone learns differently; once you help me figure out what works for you as a student, I can tailor our lessons to those abilities. I am versatile in the content I offer, using my own materials or working with something you already have in mind. I look forward to helping you grow as a writer and reader!
