Hi! My name is Kevin, I am a full time experienced Chemistry tutor with a PhD in Chemistry. My aim is to improve your grades, confidence and enjoyment of the subject. And to help you with your study and exam skills, both of which are vital.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Chemistry: GCSE, iGCSE, A-Level and University. Study Skills and Exam Technique.
I can provide tutors in Biology, Maths and Physics too if needed.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
PhD Organic Chemistry from Edinburgh University, 1st Class Honours Degree Chemistry from Edinburgh University and Masters in Biochemistry from Imperial College
- How much do you charge?
My rate is £40 per hour for any tuition which includes travel costs. Group lessons are possible too, which works out cheaper per person.
- Where do you teach?
Guildford, Surrey, the south east and London. I have tutored mainly in the Guildford and the surrounding Surrey/Hampshire area, such as Woking, Godalming, Chilworth, West Byfleet, Farnham, Farnborough, Farncombe, Clandon, Oxshott etc.
I also tutor in several areas in south west London, south east London, central London, north London, Kingston, Croydon, Richmond, Twickenham etc. The above list isn't exhaustive, please enquire if you are not sure.
I generally travel to the student's home, some students prefer to come to me and a few people further away do sessions via Skype.
- When are you available?
I am available weekdays and nights plus weekends. It is best to contact for exact days and times etc.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Most of my work is A-Level Chemistry plus some GCSE and iGCSE.
I do get a few college and University students, mainly students who are doing courses that require Chemistry.
In the past I have helped several students with University entrance exams such as GAMSATs, that involved science and essay writing.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and B, iGCSE
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
This would be done by Skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
You can improve your grades with a little help and guidance. If you are well prepared then the exam will be no problem. A good tutor can help you do this. Once a week or once a fortnight is enough.
If you come to the sessions keen to learn and with some questions then you will get a lot from it. It is vital that you put in the effort in between sessions and recap on what we did.
We will work on your Chemistry to give you a good understanding making it as simple as possible. I will also help you with your study methods and exam technique, which is incredibly important. This starts with what you think about exams and your own self belief/confidence plus different ideas and methods to ensure that you study/revise efficiently and effectively.
The overall aim is to improve your exam results.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring GCSE and A-Level Chemistry since 2005 covering AQA, Edxecel, OCR A and B plus iGCSE. I tutored at Edinburgh University for 3 years and I have 3 months experience working in a top London school.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an Enhanced CRB check from March 2015.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of The Tutors Association.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are mostly AS and A2 Chemistry students plus a few GCSE and iGCSE, covering AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
I have a good mix of students of various abilities and personalities. Some are looking to do medicine and require an A in Chemistry, while others have different goals and are looking to improve their skills and grades. There are also several A2 students who are resitting their AS exams and require help with AS and A2.
Some of the current students I tutored last year at AS Level and now they are returning for A2.

My child was on the brink of giving up in this subject and Kevin heaved him up! My son enjoyed the sessions, felt they were worthwhile and was able to lift his spirits at having been taught by someone who knew the subject, was sympathetic and able to hone is on what really needed to be focused on. Even after the A level exam, Kevin was there to give advice. Thank you, Kevin!
Kevin has been a great help to my daughter, and has helped boost her confidence in chemistry. She is much more focused, and has taken his advice on how to prepare for her exam. Kevin has surpassed our expectations for a tutor and I would highly recommend him.
Kevin really helped our son to pass chemistry. He was patient and managed to build a good rapport with him and this helped him to be confident. I will recommend Kevin any day.
