About Alvaro
Hi! I'm a PhD candidate in Canberra with a strong professional background in STEM fields. In high-level scientific research, mathematics is the universal language we use daily to model evolutionary patterns, program genetic algorithms, and analyze complex statistical data. I have several years of experience teaching mathematics and general science both in academic settings and through private tutoring. I’m passionate about making numbers, equations, and logical problem-solving clear, approachable, and highly engaging for students of all levels. I offer private tutoring in a wide range of mathematics topics, including general mathematics, algebra, geometry, calculus, and biostatistics. Whether you’re preparing for high school exams, struggling with university calculations, or just want to rebuild your foundational math confidence, I can guide you through it.
To build up my first local student base in Canberra, I am currently offering a special Launch Price of $50/hr for Primary and High School students. For advanced University-level mathematics, biostatistics, or specialized coursework, my rate is $70/hr due to the higher level of preparation required. First 30-minute online trial session is free!

My lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. I combine a solid academic foundation with a flexible, patient, and supportive teaching style to make mathematics feel logical, structured, and rewarding. Monotonous math classes focused on blindly copying formulas from a whiteboard are definitely not my style; instead, I focus on stripping away "math anxiety" by building true conceptual understanding, showing students how numbers connect to the real world. We will completely avoid rote memorization. I focus on developing problem-solving skills and logical thinking. If a concept or operation feels overwhelming, we will break it down step-by-step using visual aids, practical applications, and guided exercises until it becomes second nature. I always adapt my pace and methods to whatever suits each student best—whether they need visual breakdowns, abstract reasoning, or steady repetition.
Lessons typically last 60 minutes, but I can adjust the duration depending on your preferences and schedule. Backed by my Bachelor's and Master's degrees, and my current research as a PhD candidate where I apply mathematics and statistical modeling daily, I have years of experience guiding students across all academic levels.
My lessons are suitable for:
