About Scott
Deep down inside, I feel that everyone wants to learn how to play a musical instrument. Everyone is talented. It's my job to show them how to bring it out of themselves. As a teenager, I was self-taught with minimal instruction. But, when it was time to go to college, I decided to get a music degree. Even though I am now a trained musician, I never lost my love for the "playing by ear" approach to teaching and performance. I teach multiple genres of music: blues, folk, rock, country, alternative, classical, etc. This is what I bring to my method of instruction.

I will teach you in the way that I learned; by ear. I do have a way to notate the lesson. No music reading required (although, I can show you how to read music if you request it). Oh, and did I mention I make it fun? Lessons should be fun and learning at the same time. Lessons are for beginner to intermediate. If you are an advanced or pro player, I may be able to help you understand music theory without learning how to read music.

Scott mentored me in guitar, music theory, and songwriting. I would show up to our sessions with simple riffs and chord progressions I had written at home, and he would help bring my ideas fully to life while teaching me how to create melodies, harmonies, and improvised solos. He even took the time each week to record my ideas and helped build them out into fully composed songs. We created nearly a full album's worth of material together that I am still proud of to this day. I highly recommend Scott to anyone looking to expand their musical horizons.
scott is an absolute amazing teacher and inspiration to learn from
We have worked with Scott on many musical projects. Not only is he a talented musician, but he also has an understanding of the best approach to pass on the gift of music.
We’ve had several of his students on our radio show, and every time their performance has reflected Scott’s friendly yet thorough approach to music instruction.
Scott’s understanding of the dynamics of learning gives him a unique insight into the best strategies to help bring students along the path, whether it’s a hobbyist just wanting to learn a few tunes for family gatherings or professionals wishing to hone their craft and improve their stage presence.
Scott’s sessions are more than just ‘instruction’; it’s as if you’ve sat down with a good friend who has some beautiful music he wants to share…I took guitar and bass lessons from Scott for almost 10 years in person at our local music store. He is an amazing teacher with a vast well of knowledge and I could not recommend him more.
I met Scott Stephens when I came home from the hospital Yes he is my big brother! We both started to learn how to play guitar together but, he excelled at it and I wanted to have long painted fingernails! My whole life I have watched him learn the guitar from Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. He expanded his knowledge with a Music Degree in college. Every generation, every genre of music he absorbed into his character as a musician and teacher. God gave all the patience to him and had none left to give me. Scott is the most patient, open minded instructor for all ages of learning. You will learn how to play and understand that guitar when you spend time with Scott Stephens.
