FAQ's
📚 When should my child start 11 Plus tutoring?
Most education experts recommend starting 11 Plus preparation in Year 4, when children are around 9 years old.
- Year 3 (age 7-8): A gentle introduction that strengthens reading comprehension, vocabulary, and basic arithmetic.
- Year 4 (age 8-9): The sweet spot for most children to start dedicated 11 Plus work.
- Year 5 (age 9-10): Effective for confident learners who need focused refinement.
A gradual two-year approach often produces better results than intensive short-term cramming.
💰 What are the fees for 11 Plus tutoring in Bedford?
The average price for 11 Plus tutoring in Bedford is around £17/h per hour.
The final cost depends on a few key elements:
- Whether the tutor is a qualified teacher or specialist (QTS status, exam board knowledge, success rate)
- How selective the schools you are aiming for
- Lesson delivery method (one-to-one, small group, online, or in-person)
- How often and how long each session lasts
Booking a block of lessons often brings the per-session cost down significantly.
🎯 What are the main components of the 11 Plus exam?
The 11 Plus exam typically assesses four core areas: English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

- Mathematics: Tests both calculation skills and mathematical reasoning ability.
- Verbal Reasoning: Assesses vocabulary breadth and logical thinking with words.
