My teaching method is very simple relying on the student to guide where the lessons go and the pace that they go at. I have several methods of teaching which allows me to work with all different types of people.
I can help and tutor any student studying mathematics in Lincoln.
Tutoring can go from GCSE up to A-Level and the teaching methodology will vary depending on the requirements of the student. Typical lessons mainly consist of speaking the material and some practice questions for the student with room for questions from the student. Some tutoring sessions will involve helping the student with questions they provide.
Based in lincoln I have a BSc in archaeological sciences and and MSc in biomedical and forensic Egyptology, along with degree level training in PGCE and education with Tesol. My teaching method is to flexibily tailor the lesson to the students needs [usually success in exams/sats] with the aim of teaching the student how to think rather than what to think.
My teaching method involves patience and an easily understood way of giving information, mostly studying side by side with the student, reason that only allows me to tutor one student at a time.
At university I have held three different roles involving maths work, Student Advocate (group or individual support for those who need to improve their grades), Mathematics Outreach team (working with all students, particularly focussing on exceptional students who require additional mental stimulation), and volunteering for Action Tutoring (1-1 mentoring for GCSE students).
I'm soon to be studying mathematics at University of Lincoln and would be able to tutor GCSE level or below mathematics over Skype or online messaging (transport would be an issue due to limited funding).
As a tutor I aim to deliver clear, structured tuition by breaking topics down and focusing on building a strong baseline understanding of these topics before developing your knowledge and intuition on these topics. During lessons I plan to use a variety of techniques that I use as part of my own studies such as using visual learning techniques and fully worked examples.
I start by understanding the individual. I identify parts of their learning which is floored and then often go back to basics in those fields. Quite often students struggle because they don't understand concepts which are assumed to be prior knowledge, I take the time to go through this and build their confidence and make their weaknesses in to strengths.
My teaching method is a combination of assisting students learning through explaining the basis and theory behind mathematics and physics to help broaden their understanding and allow them to pass their exams
I cover the topics required comprehensively with an emphasis on clarity and not proceeding until the student fully grasps the concepts at hand. I assess where the gaps in the student’s knowledge lie and then focus lessons around these gaps. Where a more general approach is required I teach with a focus to covering the fundamentals and then building on that knowledge to teach advanced ideas.
I can help with revision for GCSE's by working through problems and detailing different methods to reach answers in Maths and Science to ensure that the subject matter is fully understood. I am friendly and willing to go over anything more than once to ensure you fully understand the topic.
My aim in lessons is to help the student feel confident with the topics that are taught in order to allow them to be more independent when it comes to solving problems. I am flexible in my approach to tutoring and will tailor the way I teach to each student's needs.
I prefer doing one-to-one or small group mentoring and focusing on each individual student to ensure they fully understand what is going on in the lesson.
I believe it is important to tailor sessions to the individual needs of the student. It is a useful aspect of one-to-one tutoring that we can focus on what the student is struggling with and move on to something else until they are ready. It is also important to try and make it fun and engaging.
I believe in understanding content and then applying it to the exam context. I believe this is the route to my success in past examinations, something I am enthusiastic to share with my students.
My teaching method is adaptive to the student, I feel it’s important to access how they work, in order to be most effective. I also think the teaching of revision techniques is important for learning in the long term. Positivity is key, I want students to believe they are good at something and they can achieve great grades, they just need to learn the tools and techniques in order to do so.
I can adapt to many different teaching methods including discussing past papers and then focusing on topics which seem to be an issue and can provide work tailored to suit each student the best way in order to build confidence
I would normally ask students to bring a topic or any questions from a topic they have found difficult. I would discuss the basis of the topic with the students and go through more questions within that topic to ensure they gain a full understanding.
I like to begin by judging whether the student is at, i.e. what level they are currently working towards and the improvement they would like to make and how likely they are to make such an improvement. I start by seeing their basic understanding of concepts and particular topics, for example Poetry within English, before working towards improving this understanding.
I am eager to teach secondary school students who want to learn more advanced maths to achieve grades 7-9 in preparation for A-level and those who may need some extra support with one-to-one tuition. My methods include learning through application to real life and plenty of practice questions. I am happy to teach one-to-one and with small groups.
I'm currently studying a masters in Particle Physics and Cosmology at Lancaster University. I have A-levels of: Physics A* Maths A* Further Maths A* Additional Further Maths (AS) A I have helped family/friends with Maths revision/tutoring in the past at levels ranging from KS2 up to A-level Further Maths and want to now use this experience to help others.
I would teach children based on what they feel they need help with. I would base the lessons on a certain topic and then help them to gain an understanding of it. I am currently studying A- level Maths, Accounting and Business Studies. I have 10 GCSE’s including an A* in Mathematics. I am very friendly and would love the chance to help out younger children.
