Studying Classics gives you a deep understanding of the civilisations that shaped Western thought, politics and art.

• Classical languages: building the toolkit to translate Cicero, Virgil, Homer and Sophocles.
• Classical literature: epic poetry, tragedy, comedy, oratory and historical writing in original or translation.
• Greek and Roman history: democracy in Athens, the Roman Republic, the Empire and beyond.
• Culture and ideas: Greek myths, Roman religion, philosophy from Plato to the Stoics, and classical art.

A private tutor helps you connect these strands and build genuine confidence in translation and essay writing.

In Yeovil, expect to pay about £40/h for an hour of Classics tuition.

The cost depends on a few key things:

• Your level of study (GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate or general interest).
• The teacher's qualifications and track record with exam boards such as OCR or Eduqas.
• The package chosen: one-off sessions or a regular booking discounted by volume.
• Where lessons take place, with online tuition usually offering better value.

Comparing several profiles helps you find the best balance of expertise and price.

Reaching the top grade in GCSE Classics comes down to mastering the content, practising past papers and refining how you write under timed conditions.

• Practise past papers regularly under timed conditions to build speed and stamina.
• Develop strong written answers with a clear thesis, named examples from the sources and explicit analysis.
