The 32-beat rule is a fundamental concept based on how dance music is organised into phrases.

Phrases group beats together so listeners feel a sense of progression and resolution.

• In 4/4 time, 32 beats equals 8 bars, which is the most common phrase length.
• Producers design key moments to land on these 32-beat boundaries for maximum impact.
• Phrase-aligned transitions feel smooth because both tracks change together.

This skill transforms random mixing into structured, danceable sets.

In Leeds, you can expect to pay approximately £28/h for a one-hour DJ lesson.

Your final cost depends on a few key considerations.

• Your current skill level, from complete beginner to advanced mixing techniques
• Whether your tutor has worked professionally in clubs or festivals
• Whether you book single lessons or commit to a regular course
• Your preference for remote learning or hands-on in-person sessions

Many tutors offer discounted rates for block bookings or regular students. Video-based tuition removes travel costs and often comes at lower rates. A first trial lesson is often free or discounted so you can assess the fit.

Generally, the venue is responsible for music licensing, not the individual DJ.

This licence ensures artists get paid when their work is performed publicly.

• Venues like nightclubs, pubs, and hotels typically have their own PRS licence in place.
• Wedding DJs at venues without music licences should check their legal obligations.
• Online performances have their own rules separate from live venue performances.

When in doubt, ask the venue to show proof of their PRS or PPL licence.
