I have extensive experience in tutoring pupils aged 5 to 12 years. Enthusiastic and engaging, I take a close interest in each student and tailor my lessons to meet their individual needs and interests. I travel to the student's home and am available Mon to Fri (except Tues) during after school hours. My lessons cover all aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence currently used in Scottish schools.
My teaching method is to approach topics simply and slowly so the person I am demonstrating to understands and learns at their own pace.
I approach each aspect of learning English (grammar, pronunciation, etc.) by basing it on past experiences, and basing it on how the student reacts to different techniques and methods. Every student is different and learn in a unique and individual way, therefore, in the first class, I will use a variety of methods to get a deeper understanding of how to teach to this student.
I have experience in teaching English literature A-Level classes, and in leading critical thinking classes to pupils aged 12-18. I have also tutored Oxbridge hopefuls in interview practise.
I begin any teaching process by making a student feel comfortable and identifying their weaknesses and strengths, from there we can achieve their goals and (more importantly) attain the required grades. I understand that not every individual has a natural affinity for English as a subject, but I believe that every student is capable of achieving an impressive grade in English.
I approach each topic by getting a grasp on what the students' particular goals are, and then tailor-making our sessions to ensure that we reach them with time to spare! I'm friendly and patient, but I also require discipline from my students. The majority of the students that I have offered tutoring to have been high-school age, but I'm absolutely open to university level tutoring, too.
Hello! My name is Brenda and I am an enthusiastic young lady who loves to teach English language to others who are interested in and I'm looking forward to get related with nice and interactive students. I am originally from Mexico and am currently studying my masters at the Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.
Hi there! My name is George and I am a recent graduate from University of St Andrews. First of all, what are my academic credentials? I have a 2:1 MA in English Literature as well as 3 A-grade A Levels in English, History and Latin and 11 A*s at GCSE level giving me an excellent understanding of English and the study of literature as well as a good grounding in a variety of academic areas.
I am a primary teacher with experience teaching English as an additional language and working with a range of ages, abilities, and needs. I am offering lessons tailored to your specific needs. I ensure good relationships with my students as a positive learning environment is the most productive one.
My passion for teaching English is undimmed after over forty years experience. I gained my Graduate Teaching Certificate in 1970 and have been involved in developing communication skills ever since, mainly with Secondary School pupils but more recently with adult foreign students.
I have a personable approach to teaching which helps my students to feel relaxed during our sessions. I like to challenge students by having them answer their own questions with some prompting and honing their inference skills so they are able to derive answers for themselves.
I approach each topic with mind maps and colour in order for my students to remember important information easier. Teaching methods may vary depending on the student's ideal learning techniques. I like to bring as much fun as possible in order to not stress the student.
When helping a student I always ask what he/she knows, so I know where to start. From there on we build upon that knowledge, much like building blocks - One has to understand the foundation before one can build on top of it. This can especially be helpful when going though homework, assignments or their general participation in class.
I give lessons to GCSE and A Level students studying for qualifications in English Language and English Literature. I am known for my relaxed yet attentive teaching style, and I understand the importance of creating a safe and open environment with the student in order that academic success can be comfortably attained.
I am an S5 in Edinburgh and would like to help tutor children in any levels under what I have done. I have lots of notes and help sheets, so can help guide your child through their school year and hopefully improve their skills, in an interesting way. I can adapt well to different teaching methods and try to tailor lessons to best fit your child's learning style.
My teaching method is one to one readings of texts, with a focus on text interpretation, and close reading. Through discussion and debate, I teach how to get through to the subtext, and increase confidence in handling difficult passages. I shall also help structure and give feedback on essays and creative writing.

Since then I have helped my granddaughter who has cerebral palsy. I feel motivated to help those who need extra support for whatever reason that they have found their education compromised.
I prefer a conversational, casual style. We can go over your existing homework and/or just talk freely about our lives and such. As we speak, I will gently correct any small mistakes in grammar or syntax. But I'll be nice about it! I've lived in countries all over the world and am very used to speaking with people who speak English as a second language.
