Whether new to exercise or returning to the gym after a break, Southampton offers plenty of fitness classes. Southampton's fitness scene is diverse, catering to everyone's needs. There's something for everyone, from strength training and core workouts to fun group sessions like dance, swimming, and boot camps.
For example, you could take a fitness class at the University of Southampton, work out at the Gym Group Southampton Central, or join David Lloyd for a more holistic approach to fitness and well-being.
Southampton is home to fitness centres and gyms that cater to every kind of workout routine. PureGym Southampton Central at Mountbatten Retail Park offers fitness classes and is open 24 hours a day, so you can work out no matter your schedule. Carpe Diem Fitness has workout classes, including high-intensity interval training (HIIT), yoga, and pilates, with classes designed to keep you engaged and motivated.
One of the strengths of Southampton's fitness scene is the variety of classes and activities available. Most venues offer HIIT classes for those looking for something intensive. The University of Southampton, however, offers LES MILLS SPRINT™, a high-intensity interval training workout on an indoor bike.
If you like your workouts to be fun and energetic, look for Zumba or Dance Fit classes, both offered by Applemore Health & Leisure. Don't forget about swimming, either. It's often cited as one of the best workouts since it's low-impact and effective. You could do this at the Wildern Leisure Centre.
One of the biggest challenges in fitness is finding the time. Fortunately, Southampton offers a variety of options, including plenty of different places where you can work out and lots of fitness tutors and coaches to help you.
Most centres, including the University of Southampton, allow you to book classes just a week ahead, which is really useful if you only find out your schedule weekly. With a private coach, you can enjoy even more flexibility when it comes to your personal training.
Southampton boasts a variety of budget-friendly options. PureGym Southampton Central is a 24-hour gym with a very affordable membership and minimal joining fee. It also offers a wide range of equipment and 50 free fitness classes per week. The Gym Group has even cheaper memberships than PureGym, but most of the cheaper gym memberships cost between £15 and £20 a month, and even the greatest of budgets can extend to gym membership.
As for facilities, Southampton is home to state-of-the-art fitness facilities offering some of the best experiences. David Lloyd Southampton isn't far from the city centre. It has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a cutting-edge gym, and 18 tennis courts featuring the PlaySight system. The University of Southampton's Jubilee Sports Centre is a large gym with over 200 exercise stations, a 25-metre swimming pool, sports halls, squash courts, fitness studios, and climbing and bouldering walls. It's open to both university members and the public.
So, with all these great locations and facilities, how can you get the most out of your personal training?
With a dedicated personal trainer on Superprof, of course! Superprof has a diverse range of qualified instructors, including Jenny, an experienced personal trainer and health coach. You can check your tutor's profile to see what their students think of them. The top tutors have 4- and 5-star ratings, and some even have perfect scores! There are also flexible training options, meaning that Superprof can fit your lifestyle!
Your Superprof fitness coach will work with you to create a personalised workout plan that fits your goals, fitness levels, and any other specific requirements you may have. A bespoke approach means more effective and sustainable results.
Unlike fitness classes at your local gym or sports centres, personal trainers and fitness coaches come with the added benefit of tailoring every minute of every session to you.
With nearly every tutor offering the first session for free, you can find fitness sessions for an average of £29/h. However, those on a tighter budget can opt for newer and cheaper coaches for closer to £20 per hour. For specialised coaching, set aside a budget upwards of £50.
With Superprof, anyone in Southampton can find supportive and professional fitness coaches and personal trainers. Ready to start your fitness journey? Superprof makes it easy to connect with the right coach in Southampton.
