Find a French Tutor Near Me in Smethwick

Most learners agree the subjunctive causes the greatest difficulty. Unlike the indicative, it deals with feelings, wishes, and uncertainty.

• Trigger phrases — Expressions like "il faut que", "je veux que", or "bien que" require the subjunctive.
• Irregular stems — High-frequency verbs have unique subjunctive forms you must memorise.
• Practice tip — Memorise complete phrases before analysing the grammar.

Regular practice with real sentences helps this tense feel less intimidating over time.

French tutoring in Smethwick typically costs £17/h per hour.

This rate varies several factors:

• The student's level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's experience and qualifications (native speaker, degree, teaching certificates)
• How often you book and session duration (weekly, intensive, or occasional)
• The lesson format (video call, face-to-face, or hybrid)

Many tutors offer discounted rates when you book multiple sessions in advance. A trial session lets you experience their teaching style at no cost.

According to this principle, a small portion of words covers most real-life conversations.

Instead of learning random vocabulary, you focus on what native speakers actually use.

• Core vocabulary — The 1,000 most common words cover about 85% of written French.
• Grammar priorities — Focus on the tenses you will actually use before studying rare literary forms.
• Real-world exposure — Conversations naturally repeat high-frequency words and patterns.

By applying this rule, you reach conversational ability faster without drowning in obscure details.
