Find a French Tutor Near Me in Sutton Coldfield

The subjunctive is widely considered the trickiest tense in French. Unlike the indicative, it deals with feelings, wishes, and uncertainty.

• Trigger phrases — Words such as "pour que", "avant que", and "à moins que" signal its use.
• Irregular stems — The most-used verbs often have irregular conjugations in this mood.
• Practice tip — Start with fixed expressions and learn them as chunks.

Once you recognise the triggers, the subjunctive becomes more predictable and manageable.

The average price for a French lesson in Sutton Coldfield is around £18/h.

This rate can change several factors:

• The student's level (GCSE, A-Level, or conversational)
• Your teacher's background and credentials (native speaker, degree, teaching certificates)
• How often you book and session duration (weekly, intensive, or occasional)
• How tuition is delivered (online, at home, or at the tutor's location)

Opting for online lessons can also reduce fees while keeping quality high. Quite a few tutors give a free first lesson so you can check the fit before committing.

The 80/20 rule suggests that roughly 20% of French vocabulary accounts for 80% of everyday speech.

Instead of learning random vocabulary, you focus on what native speakers actually use.

• Core vocabulary — Mastering 2,000 high-frequency words lets you understand most conversations.
• Grammar priorities — The conditional and future simple add flexibility without overwhelming beginners.
• Real-world exposure — Listening to native content reinforces the vocabulary you need most.

By applying this rule, you reach conversational ability faster without drowning in obscure details.
