In terms of methodology having watched different ways of teaching I approach maths from the ground up but have the student work their own way up with a series of prompts.
If you have not started to learn this subject, I will teach you patiently with each chapter, make sure you understand all of it. And we will do some exam papers to check. If you just want to learn certain chapter, we can just focus on it and tackle some difficult questions. I also have some Chinese way to do the questions, which may be easier to understand.
I prefer explaining things very slowly and believe in deep understanding rather than memorising. I believe every mathematical problem should be understood first before undertaking any action. also I think its a good idea to make this subject fun by allowing the student to taste the joy of solving a problem before giving him something impossible to solve.
My approach to teaching is diagnostic and methodical. Is is extremely important that I have a firm grasp on what my student knows about a topic, be it a lot or a little, so I can tailor my teaching to best suit their needs.
