Hello! I am a 20 y/o violinist currently studying on a scholarship place the The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in my 3rd year. All ages and beginners up to an intermediate level welcome. Message for a copy of my CV. My teaching approach will differ depending on the individual pupil as I am aware that people learn in various different ways.
I work holistically taking into account the learning style of individual students and adapt my approach to their needs. I cover a broad range of Arts and Academic criteria ranging from teaching the guitar and stylistic jam session to grade 8 in Rockschool and ABRSM in addition to IT coding and advanced computer skills.
I will give entry level and intermediate lessons. I will start from the comprehension of the instruments, the right position to have, basic music reading, teaching then simple pattern in order to become comfortable with the instrument. I will teach both to children and adults.
I teach any age and any play-ability. I am happy to coach someone who wants to be classically trained although I am not fully classically trained myself. I have been playing the piano for about 13 years now, although I am from America so have no official qualification of this.
The way I learn new songs fast, (even the complicated ones) is by seeing a logical pattern in the music, then use your intuition to glue whichever method suits "you". I personally pursue (the magic of) Chords. Once the songs basic melody is in your head, without sight reading the sheet music or listening by ear, repitition is the final step to cement it into place.
Each student deserves a tailored approach that suits their individual personality, intent and musical interests. However, each beginner learns to breathe, how to hold their instrument and how to play a handful of notes, before - soon enough - getting some tunes in their head! This can be done by reading or by ear, or both, and then we build from that point.
I base my lessons around the Suzuki Method of music teaching but am happy to work with students towards the ABRSM grade exams if they so wish. Much of my lessons revolve around learning solid technique through a vast variety of music.
I have mainly worked with beginners, however, have had some students progress onto higher ABRSM grades (grade 7). I take a structured approach with absolute beginners in helping them find their way around the keyboard and basing lessons on starter books, but then base following lessons on what the student wants to progress in.
Third year Primary School teacher The methods of teaching I use are fun, play-based activities which are interactive for the child to engage and motivate them to learn. I will use a range of PowerPoints, iPad apps and other resources. I am flexible and will change my way of teaching to suit the child.
