I have finished my MSc in Electronics Engineering at the University of Southampton and will be doing my PhD next year at the same university. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach Maths, Physics, Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering. - Tell me about your qualifications. MSc in Electronics Engineering, BSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Tutoring is amazing in that it gives a student the opportunity to learn in an environment perfectly fitted just for them. I’m happy to talk about the methods I have used in the past but when it gets down to it, each student I tutor learns best in a different way, unique to them.
Having graduated with a Masters in Physics back in 2005, from the prestigious institution of Imperial College, I have since learned a great many things in industry... and a lot of things beyond. I am a serial problem-solver and love to grab a challenge, especially if that challenge is how I might best help others. Which is why I'm here.
My aim is to ensure that I offer my students personalised tutoring that caters for all their needs. This includes examination preparation and practice for topics already covered in school or college or tuition in the subject from first principles assuming little or no prior knowledge.
I can teach GCSE Maths, Sciences and Computing/ICT and A-Level Maths, Physics or Computer Science. I like to introduce a concept to the student, explain how and why this concept is important and demonstrate this by tackling a couple of example questions. The further context of this concept will also be looked at.
I start off with the basics. I first assess the caliber of the student and the grip he/she has on the basics.
I can explain concepts in detail and then use past papers, example questions and short tests to ensure my students fully understand the topic and to see what areas they might need more help on. I tend to change my teaching methods based on what works best for each student (for example using visual or auditory explanations).
I believe in tutoring 1 to 1 since it will be easier for the tutee to ask questions and not feel embarassed in front of other people. Also, I like to first explain any doubts or topics needed by the tutee and, more importantly, help them solving and understanding exercises, which will give them a chance to apply what they have learnt.
My methodology in teaching focuses on the fundamental understanding of mathematics. By helping my students build a strong mathematical foundation, it improves their logic and reasoning skills, making it easier for them to grasp an understanding of higher level theories in both physical and theoretical fields.
The format of my lessons are completely up to you and what you think you will find most beneficial, however I can help you with: - Homework and assignments. - Topics you are struggling with. - Exam preparation. - Stretching your knowledge and understanding beyond the curriculum. - University applications. I am very patient, and aim to make all my students feel at ease.
Approach each topic at a time focusing on what the student needs.
I would like to tailor the sessions to each individual student and their ability/needs, and go at a pace that they will acquire as much skill and knowledge as possible, whilst keeping in with the curriculum timing. I personally had a lot of private tuition throughout school and I can confidently say I would not be where I am now with my education had I not had that one-on-one help.
My teaching method adapts to the students. Typically when tutoring a student I sit down 1-1 and after identifying key areas of difficulty work through them with examples. This however varies greatly if I'm teaching a class and with the subject.
Hi! I am Oana and I have recently completed a master's degree in physical oceanography after having studied physics as an undergraduate.
I am studying mechanical engineering at University of Southampton, currently in 2nd year. My method of instruction is to build from basics. I like to go slowly and make sure that the student understands the concept before moving on. I always prefer when students ask questions and practice.
My teaching method is to break each topic down into simple steps, and when the student feels more confident it is extremely helpful for their learning for them to explain it back to me. If you are able to easily simlify methods to another person, it helps to retain the information.
I typically use the student's syllabus as a guide to make sure what the student knows what to expect and go to more depth in the fundamentals to explain a concept to ensure the student understands it, and then focus on the applications of those concepts so that they can apply those concepts effectively. But I emphasise more understanding the concepts to develop the students' problem-solving skills.
Currently an Engineering Student at the University of Southampton I can give tutorials on Mathematics modules and topics including primary, secondary, GCSE, AS and A Level content. I can give lessons online over Skype but am willing to travel to places in the Southampton region. I can teach Core, Mechanics, Statistics, and Further Pure Modules.
I believe everyone has their own individual rate and pattern of learning. Therefore, it is important to logically establish the subject's outline and determine any weaknesses and/or concerns. In doing so, I aim to tailor my lessons to each individual's needs and goals.
- Which subject(s) do you teach? I teach Business Studies, Physics, Maths and ICT. Also Business Skills. - Tell me about your qualifications. I obtained a BSc 2(ii) in Physics from the University of Southampton, followed by an MSc in Physical Oceanography from the University of Wales.
My teaching methodology is motivated by the objective that every student should have a positive learning experience. I plan each topic based on the session duration and try to make it as interactive as possible. I try my level best to identify students who are struggling and try to make them comfortable enough to make them discuss their problems where they are struggling.
I believe practice is important for all science subjects, and I can help you through difficult topics by working through examples with you, going over notes, and setting work.
My style is to always try and teach the underlying theory rather than just the answers to exam questions in a very interactive way. I do however like to use past exam papers as they will give an idea of the types of questions asked in exams and how they are phrased as well as improving exam technique.
I would be suitable for you if you are studying A-level Maths, Further Maths, Physics or GCSE Science or Maths. My lesson plans are made following a consultation with you about what you struggle with or what areas you would like to develop.
I was tutoring engineering students during my masters and later I started working in aerospace industry (Helicopter design). After completing 10 years in aerospace industry, I did specialization (Master's) in sound and vibration, then continued research work towards my PhD.
An active tutor that adapts to my students allowing them to learn and retain information in a interactive and physical way so information is acquired allowing the student to demonstrate there skill. I teach in a very calm way to give my students confidence and an active mind.
My name is Stella. I am 21 years old. I am currently a full time graduate student in Southampton. I love teaching younger kids the basic information of sciences. I would love to pass knowledge to kids through some fun ways of learning.
I base my classes around the current topic of study and focus on what the student may be struggling with most in class. I also like to experiment with how students prefer to learn; whether that is writing down lots of information at once, or making eye catching posters or powerpoints.
First session I will give them a couple questions covering their curriculum, and find out what needs work on. after that I will mainly go through the topics they struggled on in the test, and go through some of their previous papers. Then we will do some past papers together and go through each question one by one.
My teaching will always be adapted to how you learn best, and I will always aim for us both to enjoy the lesson! I take into account your existing knowledge, your levels of confidence and enthusiasm in the subject, and your goal - whether that is exam grade based or otherwise. I encourage learning through investigation, application of ideas and problem solving.
