When people think of Coventry, first and foremost, Lady Godiva tends to spring to mind. Rather hard not to think of that legend, with Godiva chocolates being known around the world.
Note that, although the chocolatier chose the name Godiva for their brand, it originated in Belgium, not this English city so famous for its legend.
It's a shame that the legend of Lady Godiva looms so large over Coventry because it is also known as the home of several aerospace and technology pioneers. For instance, Kevin Warwick, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, researches aspects of robotics.
Even if you don't follow engineering and academic news, you may have heard of him; he is the master and director of Project Cyborg. How much do you want to bet he knows more than a little bit about Python programming?
That's because, where robotics and machine learning are concerned, Python is the go-to programming language.
Python is the best and most versatile language to program robots' graphical user interfaces (called GUIs) because it is written in plain text. Unlike other codes, you can read Python as you would read a text message; it's all in English and doesn't have any complicated tags or brackets to define its orders of operation.
True to its reputation as a mover and shaker in the tech fields, Coventry schools offer extensive computer programming courses. Not just at the university level, either! Primary and secondary school students get hands-on with programming, too.
Unlike other UK cities, Coventry started their push towards including Information Technology relatively early in the Fourth Industrial Revolution - the dawn of the Internet of Things (IoT). Thus, graduating Coventrians were, and still are well prepared to meet the moment when tech firms were clamouring for qualified workers.
If you missed out on those early initiatives, there's no need to abandon your dreams of learning computer programming and Python is a great language to get started with.
A basic internet search for a Python course in Coventry will return several commercial education outfits that teach novice coders all about Python. Some of them offer hybrid lessons - both in-person and online sessions while others limit their course delivery to one or the other format.
These courses could be pretty pricey but you get a lot for your money: individualized instruction, personal attention and someone to answer any question you may have. Furthermore, they may offer job placement assistance; often, such for-profit education centres receive funding from the corresponding industry to ensure the quality of instruction and to make sure the curriculum keeps up to date with developments in the field.
By contrast, taking a Python course online, either in the free or for-a-fee variety, may not offer that degree of support. You can certainly learn how to code in Python from such videos, especially if you've made contact with the Python community of developers (so you'll have at least some guidance) but, overall, the best idea is to take a course that provides credentials.
Especially if you want to learn how to code in Python for future career prospects.
Not everybody embarks on new learning ventures with an eye toward future earning potential. It could simply be that you want to try your hand at building a robot or game development.
Did you know you can code an entire game solely in Python?
Many Superprof Python tutors also work as IT personnel and they're passionate about teaching others how easy and fun it is to code with Python. Others are still studying at university, maybe only a year from earning their degree.
Some might think such a tutor would be less experienced at coding with Python but you have to remember that, because they're still in school, there's a good chance that they have access to the latest information and developments regarding Python coding.
No matter what your reasons for learning Python in Coventry are, you're welcome to learn with any of the 60 Python Superprofs in the area. You'll be treated to all the benefits of classroom learning - personal attention, the latest information - while paying substantially less (an average of £21!) per hour of instruction.
