Expect variation according to:

• Your current ability (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• The tutor's credentials and background (degree-level musicians, ABRSM examiners, etc.)
• Lesson length and frequency (30-minute, 45-minute, or full-hour sessions)
• Where lessons take place (face-to-face, webcam, or hybrid)

Some teachers provide a free trial lesson so you can test the fit before committing.

Learning to shape your mouth correctly while managing airflow demands patience and repetition.

• Embouchure: A poor embouchure causes squeaks, flat notes, or an airy tone.
• Breath control: Practising long tones builds the lung capacity and control you need.
• Intonation: Tuning your ear comes with listening practice and slow scales.
• Reed care: A worn or poorly fitted reed makes tone unpredictable.

A qualified teacher spots these issues early and offers targeted exercises.
