About Kent
In addition to being a licensed educator with a master's from National Louis, I am an active writer, a longtime radio host, and dad to an elementary-school kid myself. I bring all of that into teaching with lots of stories, humor, patience, questions and genuine curiosity about what makes each kid tick.

Whether we’re reading a story, working through a math problem or trying to figure out what the heck to write about, I like lessons to feel active and conversational. We’ll talk. We’ll laugh. We’ll try things. We'll make mistakes, fall off the horse and get back on. That's true learning.
I have a master's in Elementary, am an Illinois-licensed elementary educator with classroom experience from kindergarten through 8th grade, including teaching 3rd- and 5th-grade reading, writing and math. I currently work at Hubbard Woods Elementary in Winnetka, IL. Before becoming a teacher, I spent years as a professional writer and creative director, so I especially love helping kids discover that reading and writing can be creative.
