I believe in conversations more and through practical life examples even to teach fictional literature or grammar. Literature is after all a reflection of our society and broader human psychology. Giving broader time on socio-political background rather than the story part of it sets the tone aptly and invokes interest in students. When it comes to grammar, understanding the core tone of it rather than textbook rules solely would prove more useful.
