I will tailor my lessons to best suit the needs of individual students. Whether you're a parent whose child would like a little help with learning to read and write, a student approaching exams, essays or applications at any level, or someone looking for help with further and higher education in literature, I'll be happy to work out a lesson schedule with goals and assessments to make sure we can get you to the top of the class!
The best way of teaching literature is discussion and writing practice so my primary methods of teaching will be close reading exercises with discussion, practice essays for more advanced students or work sheets for younger pupils. I want to share my love of literature and writing with other budding bookworms and so the primary aim of my lessons will be to encourage enjoyable and successful reading and writing. Some students prefer a more relaxed approach to teaching and learning, others benefit from structured lessons with a fixed goal - I can cater to all needs and in your first free lesson we can arrange a format that will suit you best!
I have been tutoring for six months now. I am fresh out of my masters degree in English and Comparative Literature and begun reading for a PhD in Modernist literature so I have a very comprehensive knowledge of studying the many varieties of literature from the early stages through to postgraduate level.
I regularly undergraduate teach seminars and give lectures and I have been giving twice-weekly classes for six months in KS3/4 English. I have also given extensive advice and support to those writing applications for jobs and academic courses, all those I have tutored on this have been successful in their applications.
My base rate for younger students is £20.00 per hour. Those looking for undergraduate tutoring, help with applications or CVs will be charged £30.00 per hour. If you would like me to travel to your home to give lessons there, there will be additional charge of £5.00 to cover travel costs.
