About Aundrea
I have a M.S. in Marine Geophysics studying coastal erosion and have an extensive background studying and researching environmental geology, shark ecology, volcanology, marine chemistry, and lacustrine geochemistry. Additionally, I have spent time, both professionally and volunteer-wise, in environmental policy and have learned from the prospective of how science is applied in a societal and political realm. Within these experiences, I have obtained 6+ years in both formal and informal education- most recently as a middle school (5th-8th grade) science teacher, leaving the position after 2 years due to my fiancé's job transfer and move. Middle school is my jam! I have fully-prepared and tested curriculums for both integrated and subject-based middle school science models and love working with this age range. However, I am also certified in earth, environmental, and space science content for high school and am able to tutor this age range, too.

I believe science is, and should be, fun! It's a natural extension of human curiosity and is something that students do naturally. I believe it is my job to simply tap into that curiosity and help guide the student through their learning. Doing science is the best way to learn science- whether it's through a hands-on activity, case study, obtaining data and reviewing trends/outcome, or building something. Further, I strongly believe in the effort to integrate the arts into science- STEAM. Scientific ideas, theories, and solutions need creativity. Art extracts that out of a student and allows them to see their observations through a more accessible lens.
Regarding my standards understanding of science- I have been implementing NGSS for the past 3 years and have attended and been involved in many professional development opportunities to better understand how to most effectively implement the three dimensions. I am highly confident in my ability to align lessons and content to NGSS while meeting the performance and engineering expectations.
