About Zonny
My name is Ethan Zonneveld, but most people call me Zonny. I’m based in Napier, New Zealand, and I’ve been drawing and painting ever since I was a kid. There’s always been something fascinating about being able to express myself visually — it’s still my favorite way to get into a flow state. I see painting as a kind of beautiful puzzle, where you have the freedom to decide how it comes together. I’ve come to believe that creativity is a skill that flows into every part of life, and getting better at one thing often lifts everything else around it. Painting has brought me so much more than finished pieces — the process, the lifestyle, and the people I’ve met through it have brought a lot of meaning and peace to my life. It’s something I’m genuinely passionate about, and I love being able to share that with others.

I tailor lessons to each student based on their individual needs and responses. Generally, we’ll follow the same process that I use in my own work. You’ll learn to express your design digitally, transfer it to canvas, and complete the entire oil painting process. We’ll cover colour theory, paint mixing, application techniques, composition, and the “rules” — including when to break them. I also focus on helping you develop creative instincts and confidence. I believe painting becomes simple when broken down, and that anyone can learn it. If that resonates with you, feel free to reach out — I’d love to show you what I’ve learnt.
