About Ruben
I am a male student at the university of Edinburgh Studying a joint Masters degree in Mathematics and Economics. I grew up in South Africa and have had a love for mathematic my entire life. I began tutoring my peers and younger student in my final years of high school and have taken A-level mathematics alongside my South African syllabus to further my knowledge and ability to teach the subject.

Developing an understanding is infinitely more important than a memory of how to do problems. The only way to truly excel at maths is to be able to apply the fundamentals to issues in intuitive ways. A full understanding of the basics unlocks almost all advanced maths as students realise that everything is simply an iteration of the basics. Thus I tend to identify where students are struggling, and distill it down to the base level allowing them to understand a section or problem from the ground up rather than being taught how to use formulae and methods.
