When taking on a new student I first try to understand any areas where the student is struggling and then build up from the foundations to fill in those areas. I always aim to ensure my students not only know how to answer a question but, can explain why they have that answer and its significance.
I am a quantitative researcher and data sciencist with a PhD, MRes and BSc in Mathematics. I have given many private lessons over the course of the past 7 years whilst studying and have also taught, supervised and graded many undergraduate students at degree level in subjects such as: Calculus, Algebra, Real Analysis, Probability and Statistics, Introductory Engineering, General Linear Models, Stochastic Processes, Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Ecology and Epidemiology.
2014-2018 University of Surrey, Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics
Thesis: Modelling sleep-wake regulation: the dynamics, bifurcations and applications of the two process model
2013-2014 Swansea University, Masters by Research in Stochastic Processes: Theory and Applications
2010-2013 Swansea University, Bachelor of Science First Class Honours in Mathematics
2014-2018 Postgraduate researcher — Surrey
Carried out marking, tutoring or teaching assistant roles for the following mathematics undergraduate courses: Calculus, Algebra, Introductory Real Analysis , Probability and Statistics, Transferable Skills, Introductory Engineering, General Linear Models, Stochastic
2013-2014 Tutor, Navitas ICWS — Swansea
Planned and ran weekly tutorials across the academic year for a class of international students studying level 1 BSc Mathematics at Swansea University through ICWS. Acted as a supervisor, providing support alongside taught modules and working through examples corresponding to topics in lectures. Encouraged students to work together to solve problems in English, improving language skills and giving a platform to integrate with other students from different cultures and backgrounds.
2014 Teaching Assistant, WIMCS — Swansea
Helped Welsh Institute of run a set of weekly ’Maths Masterclasses’ for year 9 students to show the wide range of real world areas that mathematics covers. This programme included talks on Randomness, Routing Problems and Patterns. My main role was to ensure the smooth running of these classes and assist the students in completing practical problems.

Matthew is an extremely talented individual who will always produce high-quality work and will ensure you understand everything during the tutoring process before moving on to another topic.
I achieved great results due to Matt's tutoring during my Gcses. He was helpful and made everything easy to understand. Thoroughly recommend!
Matthew was a brilliant tutor. He tutored me through my maths A Level, he was able to change his teaching method to suit my needs and took his time to explain through any problems I didn't understand. He helped me a lot and was the main reason I passed my exams. Excellent and I would highly recommend.
Matthew was a great maths gcse tutour. he really helped me with triganometry and circle theroem. my gcse maths target was a c and i got an a. would definately reccomend to anyone
