About Francisco
I'm a mathematical physicist with a deep love for teaching. I completed my Mathematics PhD at Queen Mary University of London, following a Physics MSc at ETH Zürich and Physics BSc at the University of Göttingen, three of Europe's strongest institutions for mathematics and physics.
During my decade in academia, I taught students across all levels, from first-years encountering proof-based mathematics for the first time to advanced undergraduates tackling quantum theory and differential geometry. I've marked hundreds of problem sets, led tutorial groups, and talked to students one-on-one when needed, so I know how to spot gaps in understanding quickly and address them with clarity and patience.
I'm multilingual (English, Portuguese, German) and have worked with students from many different backgrounds and education systems. I find that this breadth of experience helps me meet each student where they are, rather than restricting myself to one teaching style.
What I enjoy most about tutoring is the moment something clicks for the students, when a concept that felt abstract or intimidating suddenly makes sense. My goal is always to help students think independently, so they leave our sessions not just with better answers but with better problem-solving instincts.
I take my students' goals seriously, whether that's passing an exam, securing a top grade, or building a foundation for further study.

Hello! I hold a PhD in Mathematical Physics from Queen Mary University of London, with prior studies at ETH Zürich and the University of Göttingen, and publications in leading academic journals.
Over 10 years I've been a Teaching Assistant at four universities (Göttingen, ETH Zürich, QMUL, KCL), covering courses from first-year calculus through to advanced mathematical physics. This experience has taught me where students commonly struggle and how to adapt explanations accordingly.
My approach centres on understanding and problem solving, not memorisation. I start by identifying each student's current level, goals, and learning style, then tailor the sessions accordingly. Some students need structured worked examples, others benefit from open-ended problem-solving or Socratic questioning. I adjust as we go.
Typical lessons run 60 or 90 minutes and include a mix of concept explanation, guided practice, and independent problem-solving. I provide follow-up exercises between sessions to reinforce what we've covered.
I teach Maths and Physics at GCSE, A-Level (including Further Maths), and university level. I'm equally happy working with students who need to build confidence from scratch and those pushing for top grades.
