About Conan
I am a Mathematics and Physics graduate from the University of York, where I achieved First Class Honours, and I am starting an MSc in Advanced Computational Methods at Imperial College London this September. At A-Level I received A*A*A in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics.
I have been teaching in some form for most of my life. Before university I spent nearly ten years teaching karate and yoga to children as young as 4 and adults as old as 70, which is where I learnt to explain things clearly to students at very different levels. At university I tutored GCSE and A-Level Maths and Physics through Tutor Doctor as well as privately, and I hold a current DBS check with references available from both.
Outside of tutoring I have worked as an investment analyst at Hiscox, led a 170-member university trading society, and built quantitative research projects in Python, R, and MATLAB. I mention this because students preparing for Further Maths or Physics at A-Level often want to know where the subject actually leads, and I can speak to that from direct experience, especially in the lead-up to UCAS application season.

I adapt each lesson to the student rather than following a fixed script, starting by identifying how a student naturally thinks and building problems around that. One of my GCSE students was strongest in art, so we turned maths problems into diagrams and visual patterns first, then worked towards formal methods. She improved from a grade 2 to a grade 5 for that year's foundation paper, the maximum available. I find what already clicks and then use it as a bridge to harder material.
Lessons are typically two hours, but sometimes just one. I start by revisiting previous topics for content recall, then introduce new material, and end with example problems and setting a short task for the week ahead as to not introduce too much extra work for the student.
I work with students from GCSE through to A-Level in Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, across all major exam boards.
