About Allison
Hello! My name is Allison and I am a first year medical student at the University of Manchester tutoring maths, biology and chemistry at both GCSE and A-Level. Having achieved top grades at GCSE and A-Level and with extensive experience teaching these subjects, my goal is to help you gain confidence in your abilities to access the top marks in your exams.
My teaching methods are highly interactive and focus on deep understanding of concepts rather than rote memorisation. I will also help you understand what examiners are really looking for in mark schemes and teach my top strategies to tackling challenging questions requiring problem solving and creative thinking. TEACHING METHODOLOGY:
- Explaining concepts step-by-step in simple terms, boiling down every concept to first principles to make them understandable
- Extensive practice with exam questions and mark scheme analysis to help you achieve what examiners are looking for
- I like to challenge students to think outside the box, which is an essential skill for answering difficult exam questions that give access to the top marks
- Not just traditional lecture-style lessons, but interactive lessons that invite questions and thinking on the student's part to aid comprehension
TYPICAL LENGTH OF A LESSON: 1 hour, but may be 2 hours for intensive exam preparation
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Achieved 4A*'s in biology, chemistry, maths and psychology for A-Levels (2025)
- All grade 9's in GCSE's, with raw marks in maths/science subjects all at >90%
- Helped an A-Level maths student improve from a grade D to a predicted grade of A within 8 weeks
- Extensive experience teaching different students maths, biology and chemistry at both GCSE and A-Level, including intensive exam preparation crash-courses
