About Sinead
I am a part-time cardiac genetic counsellor and ski instructor who teaches for a living. The greatest joy in both of my roles is the moment when a patient or student fully understands a concept we have explored together and is able to apply it independently and confidently.
My educational background includes a BSc in Biology and a Master’s degree in Genetics and Genetic Counselling. My professional experience includes working as a genetic counsellor at a children’s hospital in Chicago, specialising in metabolic disorders, as well as working as a cardiac genetic counsellor in London for the National Health Service.
Alongside my healthcare career, I have spent several winters teaching skiing and snowboarding to both children and adults of all ability levels, in both English and Spanish. This experience has made me highly adaptable and skilled at tailoring lessons to different personalities, learning styles, and confidence levels.
My teaching experience is extensive. I have supervised incoming genetic counselling students, delivered lectures for cardiologists, and, as part of my daily clinical role, I teach patients complex genetic concepts so they can better understand their health and potential risks.
I believe learning should be engaging, personalised, and enjoyable. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to build genuine understanding and confidence in biology and genetics.

My teaching approach is highly personalised and shaped by a diverse background in education, healthcare, and one-to-one instruction. I have experience teaching individuals of all ages, levels, and backgrounds, and I pride myself on breaking down complex biological concepts into clear, understandable ideas tailored to each student’s learning style.
My goal as a tutor is not simply to help students memorise information, but to develop a genuine understanding of biology and genetics so they can apply concepts confidently and think critically when approaching exam questions and real-world problems.
Lessons are typically 45–80 minutes long, with optional breaks depending on the student’s preference and learning needs. Lessons are available for secondary school and GCSE biology students.
My teaching experience comes from several professional roles.
As a ski and snowboard instructor, I have taught students of all ages and abilities, which strengthened my ability to adapt my communication and teaching style to the individual in front of me. In addition, my work as a genetic counsellor — both privately and within the National Health Service — involves explaining highly complex genetic and medical information in a compassionate and accessible way. I regularly work with a wide range of people, from healthcare professionals to individuals with no scientific background at all.
This combination of scientific expertise and personalised teaching experience allows me to create engaging, supportive lessons that build both understanding and confidence.
