I tend to tutor via Skype, which involves preparing in advance to ensure my students receive structured lessons. The first session consists of a 'traffic light' system whereby my student considers which topics they are most/least confident in. I then analyse which learning style suits my student best and then design a tutoring programme based on this; every student is individual.
I have been tutoring GCSE and A-level Biology for over 20 years and many of my pupils achieve A or A* in GCSE Biology and A-level Biology and go on to read, medicine, law and other disciplines at their chosen universities. - Which subject(s) do you teach? I adapt my teaching method according to my students; there is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning, so it is important to find a method that works for the individual. Having said that, I conduct all my lessons in a positive manner, focussing on encouraging students to engage with the course material.
I tend to find out the goal of the teaching (e.g. exam, syllabus, desired knowledge) and the date which is being worked towards (e.g. exam, coursework deadline, personal goal) and spend the first session working out with the student (and guardians, if relevant), what they want to acheive, try and find out how the student learns best and set preliminary aims/goals with them.
Good planning, and customising my approach to fit each student's needs is crucial for me. My technique is based on thorough explaining of the subject and keeping simplified but inclusive notes in order to facilitate revising. As time is not always on our side, planning ahead, prioritising and focusing on the important information is the way to go.
Hello! I teach Science, focusing on Biology and Chemistry to secondary / GCSE students. I'm very energetic and optimistic and I make the lessons interesting and enjoyable.
As a fully qualified secondary school science teacher I apply the same structure and assessment as I would in the classroom on a one to one basis. Depending on the students needs I can teach entire topics or pin point the students weaknesses. Upon completion of the topic I assess their understanding with past paper topic specific questions.
I tailor my teaching for each student, as many of us learn in different ways, to make sure that I can achieve the best possible results for you. I will begin by running through the content, to make sure that you have an appropriate level of understanding.

I like to structure my tutorials around a students personal needs. - I'm a fairly laid back student who believes that repetition is the key to success. You don't practice until you get it right, but until you can't get it wrong. - I am happy to tailor each tutorial to the needs of the student but I will generally go through the theory of a given topic and then test it using past paper questions.
My teaching method changes to match the needs of each student, there are lots of different ways to explain things, and at least one of them will work for each person. I like to make sure lessons are interactive so that I can be sure the students understand as we go along.
The structure of each class is composed from past exam papers and textbooks in order to ensure that relevant material is covered. In addition, I draw upon my knowledge of biology and experience as a researcher to add extra insights not found in textbooks. I also find it important to discuss revision and exam techniques and review coursework.
I aim to eradicate the misconception that science is a dull and difficult subject. I teach the subject with great enthusiasm and try to link all subjects to real world scenarios so students can link what they are learning to what they see around them.
My methodology when it comes to teaching is to go through all the relevant subject material and highlight the areas the student is struggling with. We will then decide which revision method works best for the individual student and tailor lessons to a way which they will understand and gain the most benefit from.
