About Kierán
I’m Kierán, and I absolutely love helping people connect with music in a way that feels natural, expressive, and fun. I teach vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, piano, songwriting, and orchestration/composition, and my goal is to create a space where you can feel completely safe to explore, make mistakes, and grow as a musician.
I’m a big believer that learning music should be both inspiring and grounded. We’ll focus on things like hand and finger positioning, music theory essentials, and practical techniques — all the little building blocks that come together to make playing or singing complex parts feel easy and effortless.
Every student learns differently, so I always adapt my approach to your goals, your pace, and the way you learn best. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time, writing your own songs, or diving deeper into composition, I’ll be right there to guide and cheer you on.

I take a balanced approach, focusing on:
1) Instrumental technique, such as: hand and finger position, minute motor control, smallest possible motions, and only engaging the muscles that are needed at a particular moment
2) Music theory, including: the (Nashville) number system, inversions, scales and how to use them to improvise and build melodies, and how melodies engage with chords
3) Vocal technique: breath support, resonance, intonation training, vibrato, and expression
4) Songwriting: various ways to structure songs, creating road maps before filling in planned sections, how to set scenes and evoke emotion, music theory, English/poetry.
5) Instrumental arrangements: how to layer parts in a way that makes room for every instrument to have special moments and/or blend, how to not over produce
The thing that sets me apart more than anything is my consistently calm demeanor paired with highly perceptive attention to detail- and an ability to quickly diagnose and address areas of difficulty.
I have two music degrees (Bachelor's and Associate's) and am equipped to teach advanced students; however I have ample experience teaching full newbies and intermediate students.
