About Barbie
I am an independent researcher and practising artist with a master's degree in art history from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University and over 6 years of teaching and industry experience. Guided by feminist social history, a longstanding commitment to public welfare, and a deep interest in the intersection of culture and law, my art-historical research has examined how copyright law regulates image circulation and shapes social norms that influence public opinion and inform political policies. My analysis highlights the subject’s emotional labour and contributions, which are often erased by the copyright framework, resulting in the commodification of the subject’s body and the disregard of their agency in subsequent reproductions. My mission is to create space and advocate for marginalised communities in the art world by increasing knowledge and transparency. I have lectured at New York University and presented my research at Johns Hopkins University, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art. My previous curatorial project, the solo exhibition Estelio by Mónica Félix, highlighted Puerto Rican migration to New York City.

specialise in modern and contemporary art history from 1900 to the present. My focus is on expanding educational opportunities and addressing information gaps for university students and working adults. I design syllabi that incorporate discussion-based theoretical and practical lessons to help students engage with art historical discourse and develop as scholars and writers. My instruction includes tailored reading assignments and discussion questions, writing and research workshops, and, depending on availability, site visits to museums, archives, and galleries to provide academic resources suited to each student's needs.
