About Rayhan

Hi, I’m Ray! I’m 21, a final-year Biomedical Science student and a competitive powerlifter. In 2026, I competed at the English Powerlifting Championships, placing 11th nationally in my category.

The gym started as an interest for me and gradually became a huge part of my life. Alongside my own training, I spend a lot of my time learning about anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health and the science behind strength and muscle growth — both through my degree and independently.

But I definitely didn’t start out knowing all of this. I made plenty of mistakes, followed advice I probably shouldn’t have, and spent a lot of time figuring out what actually matters. Even now, I regularly hear outdated or inaccurate ideas about dieting, losing weight and building muscle repeated as fact. With so much conflicting information out there, I think it’s a shame that many of the basic principles that can make fitness so much simpler still aren’t common knowledge.

That’s a big part of why I want to teach. Good information about training and health shouldn’t only be accessible to people who already live and breathe the gym. I want to take what I’ve learned through my degree, my own training and competing at a national level, and make it understandable and useful to people from all backgrounds and levels of experience.

Ultimately, I want to be the person I would have benefited from having when I first walked into a gym — someone knowledgeable enough to give you good advice, but approachable enough that you never feel embarrassed asking a question. You don’t need to know gym terminology, understand anatomy or already be in shape before speaking to me. That’s what I’m here to help with.

I’m not interested in judging where you’re starting from or expecting you to completely change your life overnight. I’d much rather understand where you are now, where you want to be, and help you develop the knowledge and confidence to bridge that gap.

When I first started training, I was fortunate enough to make decent strength progress quite quickly, but I soon realised that being strong and actually understanding how to train effectively are two very different things. Looking back, a lack of knowledge made the journey to my goals much longer than it needed to be. I made plenty of mistakes along the way, and my goal is to help you avoid as much of that trial and error as possible.

Over time, I naturally became the person friends and family came to for help with training, nutrition and their gym goals. Seeing the people around me make real progress from what I'd taught them is a big part of why I decided to start doing this for others.

Our first session will be different from the lessons that follow. Think of it as a consultation: I want to understand why you've decided to start, what you want to achieve, your previous experience, lifestyle, current training and nutrition, how much time you can realistically commit, and where you'd like to be in the coming months.

From there, I'll build our lessons around you, while still taking you through the fundamentals I believe every beginner should understand. Rather than jumping between whatever questions come up each week, we'll have a structured direction and gradually build your knowledge. We'll cover things like how muscle and strength are actually built, exercise selection and technique, progressive overload, programming, recovery, nutrition and fat loss, and how to judge whether what you're doing is actually working.

I'll also give you feedback as you progress. Your training, technique, programme and goals can change over time, so what we focus on will change with them. And if there's something you're struggling with or particularly curious about, we'll absolutely make time for it.

Most importantly, I don't want you to feel like you need to impress me or pretend you understand something when you don't. There are no stupid questions. I'd like us to build the kind of relationship where you can trust the guidance I'm giving you, while I can trust you to be honest with me about what's working, what isn't, and what you're actually doing outside our sessions.

I’m a national-level competitive powerlifter, placing 11th at the 2026 English Powerlifting Championships, alongside being a final-year Biomedical Science student. Training is a huge part of my life, but so is understanding the science behind it. I spend a lot of my time both inside and outside university developing my knowledge of human physiology, anatomy, health, nutrition and the principles behind building muscle and strength. I’ve taken my own strength from being a complete beginner to competing on a national platform, and I want to combine what I’ve learned academically, through years of training, and through competition to give you the head start I wish I’d had.

Making a big change in your life can seem daunting, but you’d be surprised how manageable it becomes once the ball starts rolling. Sometimes, all it takes is that first leap of faith.
