About Sophie
I am American but lived in France for a year, where I taught high school English. Before that, I tutored American college students in French. I am technically a heritage speaker of French, but most of my formal French I learned while pursuing my bachelor's degree in French. I understand the process of learning a new language, because I have done it myself. I also have a background in linguistics that helps me understand not only the structures of the languages themselves, but also how teens and adults best learn new languages.

I try to match my teaching style to the goals and learning style of the student. For those aiming to reach a conversational level, speaking immersion in the target language can take up most of the lesson time, with a shorter period dedicated to reviewing frequent mistakes. For those studying for grammar-heavy intro classes, a more analytic approach and explaining things in the native language is often helpful.
