About Nessa
I am a second-year Natural Sciences undergraduate at Cambridge studying Neurobiology, Mathematical and Computational Biology and Chemistry. In my first year I obtained an overall 1st for Chemistry, Biology of Cells, Physiology of Organisms and Mathematical Biology. In my A Levels, I achieved all A stars for Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Further Mathematics and my Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). In my GCSEs, I achieved all 9's which included Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Additional Mathematics (FSMQ).

I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics A Levels from 2023 to the present - I currently do weekly tutoring through the platform 'Edumentors' where I teach Chemistry A Level and also Mathematics at a Year 9 level. Previously, I tutored students in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics A Level from 2023 - early 2025. My current student, who started with me around 2 months ago, has gone from achieving a 'C' grade on A Level Chemistry to achieving 91% on her most recent exam which will be used for her predicted grades. I have also been a year-long mentor as part of Cambridge Uni's 'STEM SMART' programme, where I mentored 2 groups of 15 students each for 8 sessions each on Oxbridge/general uni applications (personal statement, study skills for A Levels, interview skills, admissions tests skills, general wellbeing advice). When I teach, I firstly identify gaps in my student's knowledge, while always checking in with the student to adjust my speed or teaching style according to what the student needs. I take a patient approach to my teaching as well as being observant of areas they are less confident in. I make sure to maintain a friendly and productive atmosphere during my lessons so my students are not under too much pressure, but are encouraged to work effectively and vocalise how they think/vocalise their approach to exam questions. I place a heavy emphasis on firstly a solid understanding of the content, then on honing exam technique, making sure they understand key words examiners are looking for and the rationale behind mark schemes. Overall, my approach to teaching is to maintain an open channel of communication between my student and I, and to be encouraging and patient.
