About Chris
Hi, I'm Chris an online piano, composition and music theory tutor. Whether you're a complete beginner, a returning adult learner, or preparing for GCSE or A-Level Music, I'll help you build confident practical skills, a stronger musical understanding, and practice habits that actually stick.
My GCSE students regularly achieve grade 9s, and many go on to A-Level with me. It's common for students to stay in my studio for five years or more — I focus on steady, long-term progress rather than quick fixes.
I hold a BA in Music and an MA in Music Education with Distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I received the Director's Prize for Excellence in Music Education (2023). I'm currently undertaking doctoral research in Music Education alongside my teaching.
Beyond the studio, I bring real performance and composition experience to lessons, including work connected with BBC Radio and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and an international composition project I founded with conservatoire students in Ecuador. This gives students a grounded sense of how music works professionally, not just academically.

About the lesson

Lessons run online in 30- or 60-minute sessions, for all ages and experience levels. I teach piano, music theory and composition, with GCSE and A-Level exam preparation built in where needed. Each lesson is adapted to your goals, current level and musical interests.
Depending on what you're working on, we might cover technique, repertoire, sight-reading, applied theory, composition, performance prep or exam skills. These are all integrated into the what you're learning so progress feels relevant rather than abstract.
After every lesson you'll get written notes with clear next steps, plus access to an online classroom with extra resources and learning tools I've built for my students. You can also send me recordings or questions between lessons, so support doesn't stop when the session ends.
I teach using a platform built specifically for music tuition, with strong audio and video quality. I'll send you a simple set-up guide before we start.
