About Ian

I am an orchestral composer with a heavy emphasis in concert music and video games. My work seeks to combine the two as much as possible, since I've grown up inspired by game and film soundtracks that also stand on their own as performance pieces.

About the lesson

I give lessons to anyone with a basic grasp of music, generally middle school age and up. If you've never encountered or been interested in music beyond casual listening, this may not be for you just yet! We do cover basic theory but only as needed to tackle deeper topics related to composition.

Regardless of music experience of the student, I tend to steer clear of overly technical explanations. I believe so much of orchestration and composition is subjective, and sometimes must be approached in a creative, fluid way that engages the imagination.
