About Talia

I am a passionate, driven, and outgoing second-year McGill student studying Honors History and English Literature. I am also involved on campus as an editor of McGill's peer-edited undergraduate history journal and as a staff writer on McGill's premier newspaper, the McGill Tribune.

Through my experience at the collegiate and high school level, I have developed a passion for writing and editing that I bring to each and every session. I meet students where they are and create a fun and easy-going learning environment to help them achieve their goals.

I look forward to tailoring each session for my students to create a stress-free experience. I hope that my students genuinely enjoy their tutoring sessions and want to come back for more! :))

PRIVATE ENGLISH TUTORING - MONTREAL
One-on-one English instruction grounded in literary rigor and critical thought.

1. Who These Lessons Are For:

These sessions are tailored for students between the ages of 10 and 18, at any stage of their English journey — from building fundamental literacy to refining university-bound writing.

GRADES: Elementary through CÉGEP prep

FOCUS AREAS: Essay writing, literature, grammar, reading

PROFILES: IB, enriched, regular, and struggling students

2. Teaching Methodology and Practice

My approach draws on how literature and history are taught at the university level — adapting those rigorous standards into age-appropriate, confidence-building practice.

Close reading: Students learn to slow down and interrogate a text, noticing word choice, structure, and argument rather than skimming for plot.

Socratic dialogue: I ask questions rather than lecture, so students arrive at insights themselves — building real analytical independence.

Scaffolded writing: Every essay begins with strong thinking. We brainstorm, outline, draft, and revise — treating writing as a process, not a product.

Historical contextualization: Texts don't exist in a vacuum. Understanding when, why, and for whom something was written sharpens interpretation dramatically.

Individualized pacing: No two students move through material the same way. Sessions adapt to the student's rhythm and areas of resistance.

3. A Typical 60-Minute Lesson

0-10min: Warm Up & Check In
Review of recent schoolwork or homework. Identify what's working and what needs attention this session.

10-25min: Close Reading
Work through a passage together — annotating, questioning, and unpacking meaning with guided prompts.

25-45min: Writing Workshop
Draft a paragraph, thesis, or full essay section. Immediate feedback on argumentation, clarity, and style.

45-60min: Wrap-Up & Goals
Consolidate the session's lessons. Set a small, achievable task to practice before the next meeting.

4. What Sets This Tutoring Apart
Dual-discipline depth: Studying both English literature and History at the honors level means I bring a richer, more contextual lens to texts than a single-subject tutor.

University-level standard, secondary-school patience: I know what strong academic writing looks like at the highest level — and I know how to guide younger students toward it, step by step.

No templates or formulas: I don't teach the five-paragraph essay as a crutch. Students learn to think and structure arguments organically.

Genuine passion for the subject: Students notice when a tutor loves what they're teaching. Literature and language are not tools I use — they're things I care about deeply.
