About Ava
I’m currently a DPhil student in Healthcare Data Science at the University of Oxford. Before this, I completed a First-Class BSc in Mathematics with Statistics and an MSc in Health Data Science and Statistics with Distinction.
I enjoy maths and particularly like understanding why methods work rather than just applying formulae. My background is now in statistics and data science, so I use mathematics regularly in my own research, particularly probability, statistics and computational methods.
I know that maths doesn’t always click immediately, and I’m a big believer that struggling with a topic doesn’t mean you aren’t good at maths. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, going back over fundamentals and working through problems at their own pace.
I’m particularly happy to work with students who want to improve their confidence as well as their grades.

I offer Maths tutoring for GCSE, A-Level and Further Maths students, as well as undergraduate students looking for support with areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics.
My lessons are tailored to what you are currently studying and where you are finding things difficult. I like to focus on understanding the reasoning behind a method rather than simply memorising steps, before working through problems together and building towards solving them independently.
I’m also happy to work through specific problem sheets, past-paper questions or topics that you send me in advance, so lessons can be focused on exactly what you need help with.
Having studied Mathematics with Statistics at undergraduate level and now working in healthcare data science, I’m particularly interested in helping students build confidence with mathematical and statistical problem solving.
