About Faizaan
Hi, I'm Faizaan! I studied mathematics at Oxford, and am currently studying philosophy and theology in Cambridge.
I am engaged in extensive private research and teaching. I am currently writing a book on philosophy; as well as teaching multiple courses across various platforms. I am an experienced and accomplished teacher.
As part of my work in philosophy, I am deeply interested in the philosophy of knowledge, learning, and education. I use my philosophical expertise to found my teaching upon a deep understanding of what knowledge is and how humans learn. I have always been interested in the deeper meanings of things, understanding why things are the way they are: and it is that desire which impels me to teach. I find the consummate beauty of knowledge to lie not in its possession, but in its disposal and sharing.
I have extensive experience in teaching, lecturing, and designing my own courses, classes, and presentations. I teach a variety of private courses outside of my tutoring, such as in philosophy, mathematics, and Classical Arabic, as well as some entirely unique tailor-made courses such as 'How to Learn'.
I have taught at every range of the spectrum: from teaching primary school aged children to mature post-graduate students. The bulk of my present teaching involves teaching A-Level and University students. I formally only teach students of a GCSE level and above; but anyone can book a free consultation call with me in which I will help them create their own study plan, and see whether we would be a suitable fit for future classes.

Education has two components:
1) learning to understand,
2) communicating your understanding to the examiner.
In an ideal world the two would be one and the same, and understanding would mean doing well in the exam. In reality the student needs to do two things:
1) learn the content,
2) prepare for the exam.
As a teacher I'm focused on the first. What that means is that if you are looking for a tutor to help with exam technique and to go through past papers with, I would recommend finding someone who is thoroughly familiar with your exam board and has experience with it. My concern is not with giving the student specific answers to pass AN exam; but I am concerned with inculcating in the student the general ability to succeed in ANY exam: and more than the exam, to deeply understand and appreciate knowledge for its own sake.
The good news is that understanding is 80% of the journey: just knowing the material well should bring you to a B/A grade, but going the step further to the A/A* does require exam preparation. And while I don't personally offer specific lessons going through past papers, I have a general course on 'How to Learn' in which I teach how to learn / study / make notes / revise effectively and efficiently. The course is particularly effective for those students who perhaps feel that their learning style doesn't suit the system and isn't represented.
My philosophy of education sees the teacher as a student as much as the student is a teacher. I see my students as fellow colleagues whom I treat with the utmost care and respect, always humble that I may learn something from them as much as they learn from me. I care to deeply understand each student as a unique individual, and to cater to his or her own needs.
Nothing brings me greater joy than explaining the abstract in simple terms which communicate meanings directly into the heart of the student. My educational philosophy has three main principles:
1) to understand each student as a unique individual with his or her own unique method of learning and understanding things.
2) to begin with general principles and the big picture/ideas before getting focused on the gritty details; to explain the abstract in simple terms by always embody my teaching in examples.
3) I use my own system of teaching and learning which I have developed as I explain in the document and in my longer premier length course on 'How to Learn'.

The first class is a free 'consultation session' where I will do my best to understand your learning style and help you design your own study plan. I have designed and taught my own course in learning methods, the main ideas and principles of which I will utilise to help you--and that is free of charge.
