Oxford University medical student offering Biology lessons (for KS3 to A Level students) in Oxford or online

Methodology

As a medical student, I find Biology incredibly interesting. However, it’s a tricky subject at times that we can all do with a bit of extra help in occasionally. Teachers that have helped me in the past have inspired me to want to teach others. Whilst my skills are best suited to to working with GCSE and A Level students, I am very happy to teach students at a younger age too.

My tutoring is exam-oriented, meaning that in a typical lesson, my student and I would tackle a topic from the the relevant, up-to-date exam syllabus. Initially we would have an interactive discussion of the topic, before working through some practice questions together (based off past paper questions where possible). My teaching method is student-centred, meaning that both lesson structure and content are flexible to suit individual preference. My pupils are always welcome to ask questions and suggest particular areas of their course that they want to focus on.

I love having a bit of fun, and am convinced that Biology can be interesting, and enjoyable for anyone!

Experience

I have a lot of experience teaching young people having worked and volunteered at summer camps and youth clubs for the last 6 years, and having taught English to young school students in Nepal and Uganda.

In my job last year, which I took between the preclinical and clinical parts of my medicine degree, I was responsible for overseeing the teaching of young people at a youth group and Sunday school.

During the summer of 2019, I worked as a Student Helper on an Oxford-based Summer School, working to ensure the smooth operation of the course and to help students feel comfortable in a new environment.

I am a very competent user of technology, which was incredibly beneficial during the lockdown period in the UK due to coronavirus. It meant that I was able to carry out engaging, interactive lessons via video call for the youth group I was working with. These skills enhance my online tutoring ability.

I love having a bit of fun, and am convinced that Biology can be interesting, and enjoyable for anyone!
