About Cynthia
Hello! My name is Cynthia, and I’m a dedicated literacy specialist with over 10 years of experience helping elementary students become confident, capable readers. I hold a Master’s Degree in Reading and have worked as a Literacy Coach and classroom teacher, supporting students with a wide range of learning needs. My approach is research-based, engaging, and tailored to each student’s unique strengths and challenges. I believe every child can grow as a reader with the right support, encouragement, and instruction. Whether your child needs help with phonics, fluency, comprehension, or writing, I bring the knowledge and patience to guide them forward. As a literacy tutor, I use a structured, student-centered approach rooted in the Science of Reading. I incorporate multisensory techniques (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile) to meet the diverse learning needs of elementary students, especially those in K–5 who are developing foundational reading skills or struggling with reading fluency, comprehension, or phonics. Teaching Method & Techniques: I use explicit, systematic instruction in phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Lessons include interactive strategies like word building, guided reading, decodable text practice, and evidence-based routines (e.g., Orton-Gillingham or Structured Literacy). I also embed positive reinforcement and build student confidence through progress tracking and goal setting. Typical Lesson Plan: Warm-up/Review (5 min): Quick review of previous skills. Phonics/Word Study (10–15 min): Direct instruction and practice in decoding/spelling. Fluency Practice (10 min): Repeated reading or phrased reading from a decodable or leveled passage. Comprehension/Vocabulary (10–15 min): Reading a short text with targeted comprehension questions and vocabulary development. Wrap-up (5 min): Student reflection, goal check-in, and quick preview of the next session. What Sets Me Apart: I hold a master’s degree in Reading and have over 10 years of experience as a Literacy Leader. I understand how to tailor instruction to fit each child’s unique literacy needs and learning style.
