About Barry
I taught at Rice University in Houston, Texas for nearly 20 years. My local field courses at Rice were among some of the most popular classes at the school as was a summer tropical rainforest biology course that I taught in both Mexico and Panama.
Since 2014 I have lived in Mexico in order to explore the marvelous biological diversity there. I not only explore the diversity but document it through photography on iNaturalist (bsullend). Biology is not just my profession, it is my passion!

Taught at one of the world's leading universities for nearly 20 years. Love making complex concepts simple and understandable. I am always looking for the very best examples to illustrate these concepts and to awaken students to the beauty and elegance of the natural world.
I love organisms, but also have an extensive background in molecular evolution. I also love and follow developments in paleontology, geology, astronomy, and even quantum field theory. Consequently, I believe I have a special ability to give students both the deepest and broadest understanding of the things that we explore.
