About Alexander
I have a PhD in Earth Science, an MS in Marine Biology, and a BS in Zoology. For the past seven years I have worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Miami teaching a wide variety of Biological and Earth Science-related courses. Prior to that, I taught middle and high school students about conservation biology. My research involves studying tiny creatures in the sands of coral reefs to learn about how the health of these reefs are responding to climate change. I was born and raised in New York City and currently reside in Miami, Florida.

My approach to tutoring is rooted in patience, kindness, and adaptability. Growing up with ADHD has given me a deep appreciation for the fact that students learn in different ways, and I am especially attentive to individual learning styles, pacing, and confidence. I strive to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
Each lesson typically begins with a short conversation to assess the student’s background knowledge, goals, and preferred learning style. From there, I tailor the session to their needs—reviewing key concepts, breaking down complex topics step by step, and reinforcing understanding through guided practice. For students who learn visually or conceptually, I often use diagrams, analogies, and real-world examples to make abstract scientific ideas more intuitive and relatable.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to translate complex scientific material into clear, accessible explanations without oversimplifying the core concepts. I focus not just on helping students get the right answer, but on building deep understanding and independent problem-solving skills.
My lessons are designed for middle / high school and university-level students studying Earth Science/ Geology, Conservation Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Cosmology, Environmental Science, and related fields, including those preparing for exams, struggling with coursework, or seeking a stronger conceptual foundation. I look forward to working together to make challenging science subjects clearer, more manageable, and genuinely enjoyable to learn!
