About Tom
-Bachelors degree in Biology with a minor in GIS (3.63 GPA)
-Masters degree in Data Science (4.0 GPA, Graduate Honors)
-Currently pursuing a PhD in Ecology. Research involves statistics and modeling of specific species distributions in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
-I wasn't always an academic. As a matter of fact, I started school quite "late" in life. For 18+ years, I was a fishing guide from Alaska to the Florida Keys.
-Academically I am very interested in the intersection of ecology and data science. I have developed systems in a professional and research capacity that automate data collection and analytics, leverages the IoT for transfer and other actions, and centralizes big data storage and ingestion through database systems and dashboards.
-For further research, I am exploring the ways deep learning systems can assist in sampling bird populations. Individual identification, sample design, and hardware/sensor system development are front of mind. Most current surveys are conducted by hand with the potential for bias on many levels. These types of systems would greatly enhance our understanding of species abundance and distribution.

-Consulting services for college students include data visualization, learning systems, data wrangling, data management, LaTeX formatting.
-Expertise in Python and R applications in the hard sciences. Chemistry, Ecology, Biology, F&W, Animal Behavior, Engineering and like students are welcome.
-Offering discounts to students who are veterans, active duty, first responders (including SAR), demonstrate need, and non-traditional (30+ years old).
