About Mateo
I grew up as an international student doing both IB and AP curriculums. I found ways to enjoy particularly tedious subjects like maths and physics by treating them as puzzles rather than content to memorise. Honestly, it transformed everything. I actually found AP Physics I genuinely difficult at first, which I think makes me a better tutor for it. I know exactly where the confusion lives.
I ended up getting top grades across all my physics and maths courses, went on to study Physics at university, and graduated with a First Class Honours degree. But more than the grades, I genuinely love this stuff, not in a detached, textbook way, but in the way you love a good problem that finally clicks.
I also think these subjects are taught badly by most teachers. Too much emphasis on method-following, not enough on understanding. Having someone outside the classroom to actually talk through the concepts with (informally, without the pressure) can make a huge difference, and sometimes even be fun.
Outside of academics, I'm into sport, staying active, and I don't take myself too seriously. I'm happy to build a real relationship with students rather than just run through problem sets!

Recent Physics First Class graduate offering IB, AP and SAT tutoring. I'm newer to formal tutoring but have a strong subject background and am offering an initial discounted rate while I build experience.
All lessons are online and typically 60–90 minutes. My approach focuses on building real understanding rather than just drilling past papers, I want students to actually grasp the concepts so they can handle any question thrown at them.
I'm particularly strong at breaking down the topics students find most intimidating: algebra, calculus, mechanics, electromagnetism, and nuclear physics. Lessons are tailored to each student.
We start by identifying exactly where the gaps are and build from there. I'm best suited to motivated students aged 14–21 aiming for top grades or competitive university applications.
