About Maya
Hi! I'm Maya.
I'm a physics honours student at ANU with two undegraduate degrees - in physics and in mathematics.
I also have worked as a Summer Research scholar in materials physics.
I've studied a wide range of subject areas through my degree and have experience in practical lab settings, research, as well as general university settings. I've worked as a peer mentor and enjoy introducing people to the joy of learning.
In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, pilates, martial arts, reading, and good food!
Please don't hesitate to send me a message if you have any questions about my availability or approach :)

I like to start with a broad, conceptual approach to teaching, to help build up a conceptual framework over time, as this is how our brains best learn information.
When we understand how topics fit together it makes learning much more engaging and exciting!
The majority of students I work with are aged 13-17. I'm also happy to teach younger kids!
Open to working with those over 18 too, especially with preparation for uni and general study skills.
My overall approach is centred around making sure you have a deep understanding of the subject and can *apply* this understanding.
This also involves working through practice questions; using techniques for active recall, techniques for pre-reading and revising content.
Specific Subjects I'm happy to teach:
- HSC Extension 1 & 2 Mathematics
- HSC Extension 1 & 2 English
- HSC Advanced Mathematics
- HSC Advanced English
- HSC Physics, Chemistry, Biology
- Philosophy
- HSC General Maths
- Year 10 and earlier: Science, English, Maths
I'll also consider teaching 1st year Physics, Maths, coding, chemistry subjects on a case by case basis.

Perfect! I highly recommend Maya. She tailors lessons to my daughter's needs and we are already seeing progress and my daughter is enjoying learning.
From a parent's perspective, Maya is easy to communicate with and reliable.- Bridget and Ava have been a pleasure to work with so far, watching Ava's confidence and abilities build has been fantastic to see.Maya's response :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
We are so grateful to have found Maya as our children maths and physics tutor. She is knowledgeable, encouraging and patient. We highly recommend Maya to any family looking for an excellent tutor.
Maya is kind, highly intelligent and thorough. Her maths and physics skills are very advanced and she has helped me understand complex concepts and their application. She has broad interests not limited to science so would be able to cover and assist with a wide range of topics and subject matter. Maya has a methodical and thorough approach to learning and I recommend her as a highly skilled tutor.
I met Maya through her volunteer role in the Mathematics Society. She is a highly motivated, friendly and patient tutor and has an excellent ability to convey complex topics to every level of learner. I once took an advanced algebra course at University; Maya was able to help me get from a very basic understanding (40-50% on some sample quizes) of Algebra to scoring more than 80-90% on some complex assignments.
I would recommend Maya to anyone interested in learning or revising mathematics or physics at any level, k-12 and undergraduate.I've known Maya for some time, we often exchange explanations of content to develop our understanding. When Maya has explained topics to me, I've found her explanations helpful: clear, concise and interesting. She is a hard worker who focuses on deep understanding, and that translates to the way she teaches content.
