About Narjis

Hi! I'm Dr Narjis, an MBBS-qualified doctor, PLAB-passed medical educator, and Teaching Fellow with a genuine passion for teaching and helping others succeed in medicine.

Having been through medical school myself, I understand how overwhelming it can sometimes feel to balance large amounts of information, challenging concepts, and exam pressure. I believe learning medicine should be about understanding how things work, not just memorizing facts and hoping to remember them during an exam.

Alongside my clinical experience in emergency medicine, I have taught students preparing for OET, PLAB 1, and PLAB 2. I have also been involved in medical research, published academic work, and clinical audits. Currently, I am preparing for the USMLE, so I understand the demands of exam preparation from a learner's perspective too.

My teaching style is friendly, patient, and interactive. I enjoy breaking down complicated topics into simple explanations, working through clinical cases together, and helping students develop the confidence to tackle difficult questions independently. I'm also happy to support students with medical research, critical appraisal, and scientific writing.

Whether you're struggling with a particular subject, preparing for an important exam, or simply looking for someone to guide you through medical school, I'm here to help. No question is too small, and there's no need to feel embarrassed about not understanding something.

My goal is to make learning medicine less intimidating, more enjoyable, and ultimately more rewarding. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

My Teaching Approach and Methodology

My teaching approach focuses on making medical concepts clear, structured, and clinically relevant. I believe students learn best when they understand the reasoning behind a concept rather than simply memorizing facts. I use interactive teaching, clinical scenarios, exam-style questions, and step-by-step explanations to help students build confidence and apply their knowledge effectively.

Teaching Methodology

As a part-time Teaching Fellow and PLAB instructor at Gulberg Medical Center in Islamabad, I have experience organizing orientation sessions and preparing interactive lectures for OET, PLAB 1, and PLAB 2. I have also contributed to curriculum development and the establishment of a PLAB Academy.

My lessons are tailored to each student's needs and may include:

Clear explanations of challenging medical concepts and core subjects.

Clinical case discussions and structured clinical reasoning.

Exam-style questions with detailed explanations.

PLAB preparation, including clinical scenarios and exam techniques. I can also help in any OSCE style exam.

Identification of knowledge gaps and targeted revision.

Guidance on effective study strategies, time management, and examination preparation.

Support with medical research, literature reviews, critical appraisal, research methodology, and scientific writing.

I can also help medical students navigate the challenges of medical school by breaking down difficult topics, strengthening foundational knowledge, and developing effective study and revision strategies. Whether you are struggling with a particular subject, preparing for examinations, or looking for guidance with clinical cases, I provide personalized support tailored to your academic goals.

Research and Academic Support

I have research experience that includes published medical papers, data analysis, manuscript writing, and clinical audit work. My publications include research on somatostatin analogues and prostate volume, as well as a case report exploring leg edema as a presentation of follicular lymphoma.

I have also worked on a clinical audit at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Trust evaluating the use of Qutenza patches for neuropathic pain.

I can support students in understanding research papers, developing critical appraisal skills, interpreting scientific evidence, structuring academic work, and improving medical writing. My approach emphasizes evidence-based practice, accuracy, and a clear understanding of research findings.

Typical Lesson Length

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, with 90-minute sessions available for more detailed topics, clinical case discussions, research guidance, or focused exam preparation. Each session is structured around the student's objectives, with time for questions, practice, feedback, and review.

Qualifications and Experience

I hold an MBBS degree from Shalamar Medical and Dental College and have passed the PLAB examinations. My CV lists registration with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the UK General Medical Council.

My professional experience includes working as a Medical Officer in emergency care, teaching PLAB candidates, and completing a clinical attachment at Salford Royal Hospital NHS Trust. I have also participated in medical presentations, research projects, clinical audit, and academic publication.

These experiences allow me to connect theoretical knowledge with clinical practice while helping students develop the analytical and academic skills needed throughout their medical careers.

Who My Lessons Are For

My lessons are suitable for:

Medical students who need help understanding core medical subjects and preparing for university examinations.

Students who want to improve clinical reasoning and their approach to clinical cases.

International medical graduates preparing for PLAB 1 and PLAB 2.

Candidates seeking support with OET preparation.

Whether you need help getting through medical school, preparing for professional examinations, understanding complex clinical concepts, or developing your research skills, my goal is to provide supportive, structured, and personalized teaching that helps you become a more confident and independent learner.
